The Short Version
We're a garage door repair company based on E Independence Blvd in Matthews, working the doors that went up on this side of Mecklenburg County when the area filled in fast - most of the housing stock here dates from 1974 to 2006, with a heavy concentration built during the 1980s and 90s across the neighborhoods that make up Matthews proper: Sardis Woods, Marshbrooke, Sardis Forest, Providence Estates East, Oxford Hunt, Providence Plantation, East Forest, Stonehaven, Idlewild South, Lansdowne, Olde Providence North, Marlwood, Wessex Square, Montibello, and Becton Park among them.
That build era matters more than it sounds like it should. A door installed in 1985 doesn't share parts with one installed in 2004, and both are different animals from what's going up new today. We don't pretend to have decades of history to hang a story on - we don't have a founding year to give you, and we're not going to invent one. What we can tell you is what we see on service calls in this specific stretch of homes, and what that means for the repair in front of us.
We also work out to the surrounding towns and unincorporated areas within a short drive of Independence Blvd - Stallings, Hemby Bridge, Mint Hill, Weddington, Wesley Chapel, Marvin, Pineville, Fairview, Unionville, Monroe, Mineral Springs, and out toward Harrisburg and Midland when the job calls for it.
What We Are Called Out For
Most of what we see traces straight back to the housing era. Doors and openers put in during the 1980s and 90s boom are past the point where original springs and openers are still doing their job well - torsion springs have a cycle life, and a door installed in 1988 has had a long time to use it up. On the newer end of the range, houses built closer to the 2006 tail of that window are starting to hit their own first-major-repair age on openers and rollers.
We work on broken torsion and extension springs, opener replacement and repair, track alignment, cable and roller issues, and panel damage on both single and double doors. Cold-climate swings here mean steel doors without a thermal break can bind or stick on the coldest mornings of the year, and that's a call we get a handful of times each winter.
Here's the honest limitation: if a door is old enough and beat up enough that the springs, opener, and section panels are all failing around the same time, we'll tell you straight that replacement is the better use of your money over patching one part after another. We don't stretch out a repair just to bill for it. And we don't stock every part for every era of door on the truck - some older opener models take a few days to source.
